    • Family Connections Hawaii

    • State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services (Honolulu, HI) – A rigorous randomized comparison group research design to evaluate outcomes of a project that proposes to increase family finding, family connections work, and family group decision making to (1) prevent children from entering foster care, and if removed, to place them with relative/kin and (2) revisit family connections and permanency options for children in long-term foster care who do not currently have permanent legal and/or emotional family connections. Funded by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, and State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services.

    • Hawaii Advocate Program

    • Hale Kipa (Honolulu, HI) – Statewide evaluation of a youth out-of-home placement prevention project. This is an intensive approach to helping troubled youth and families in crises, utilizing the indigenous paraprofessional counselors. This comprehensive multi-island evaluation includes quantitative and qualitative methods as well as process and outcomes data. Intermediate outcome variables assessed include: Family management skills, problem solving skills, self-efficacy, family bonding, social support, coping skills, parental attitudes, family interaction, school grades & attendance, youth sexual behavior. Ultimate outcomes include changes in youth out-of-home placement, youth abuse/neglect, criminal justice involvement, teen pregnancy along, school or employment functioning. Funded by State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services.

    • Joven Noble Project

    • Bienvenidos Family Services (East Los Angeles, CA) – Provided data analysis and findings reports in an evaluation effort of adolescent male sexual responsibility and family planning program. Program provided sex education, family planning, contraceptives and abstinence, and importance of taking responsibility for own behavior. Subcontract for Behavioral Assessment, Inc.

    • Crystal Methamphetamine Initiative

    • Hawaii Community Foundation (Honolulu, HI) – Provide comprehensive evaluation services for a statewide project that spanned 6 years to include on-line survey and site visits to grantees, interviews with staff and participants as well as community stakeholders to assess impact of the initiative on the State of Hawaii communities. Funded by U.S. Department of Justice.

    • New Mexico State Incentive Grant Initiative

    • State of New Mexico – Provide data management, analysis, training, and technical assistance services as part of Statewide evaluation of youth substance abuse prevention programs. Includes over 50 sites across state. Subcontract to Behavioral Assessment, Inc. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) & State of New Mexico funded.

    • Pulama I Na "Opio O Hawai"o

    • Bay Clinic, Inc. (Hilo, HI) – Comprehensive evaluation of Island-wide youth anti-drug project for the island of Hawaii (Big Island). The purpose of the project is to increase access to substance abuse education, prevention, intervention, and aftercare programs to teens aged 12-17 and to decrease fragmentation of services. In addition to assessing ultimate outcome of substance abuse prevention, the evaluation effort also includes tracking changes in youth life skills (family bonding, self-esteem, cultural identity, problem solving, and avoiding negative peer influence) and school functioning (attendance, grades, sense of bonding and commitment to school). Qualitative evaluation methods include conducting site visits, observing project activities, and interviewing key stakeholders, including participant youth, parents, teachers, project staff, and others in the community. SAMHSA/CSAP funded.

    • Lei Anuenue Project

    • Ke Ola Mamo (Honolulu, HI) – Culturally relevant evaluation of substance abuse & HIV prevention program for transgender youths and young adults of Oahu. Project sites include Honolulu, Waianae, and Waimanalo. Risk and protective factors assessed include religious or spiritual beliefs, self-efficacy, health care seeking behavior, sense of ethnic identity, attitudes toward substance use, and expectations of future safe sex practices. Ultimate outcomes include HIV risk behaviors, prevention of HIV and reduction and/or prevention of substance use. This is a baseline to discharge to 6-month follow-up assessment design with a comparison group. SAMHSA/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) funded.

    • Parenting Adolescents Wisely Project

    • Susannah Wesley Community Center (Honolulu, HI) – Program evaluation services for Hawaii State Incentive Grant (SIG) project that is aimed at preventing youth substance use in the Kalihi valley utilizing the Parenting Adolescents Wisely Model, which is a Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Best Practice. State of Hawaii, ADAD funded.

    • Lanai Youth Center, (Lanai City, HI) – Program evaluation services for Hawaii SIG project that are aimed at preventing youth substance use in this region utilizing the Creating Lasting Family Connections, Smart Moves/Smart Leaders, and Mentoring Models. State of Hawaii, ADAD funded.

    • Wahiolanona’opio Project

    • County of Hawaii (Hilo, HI) – Project evaluation of adolescent residential program on the island of Hawaii (“Big Island”) that is both experientially and culturally based. Led by Marimed Foundation, the project is administered by a partnership of adolescent treatment specialists on the island. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) funded.

    • Hui Ho’ola O Na Nahulu O Hawai’i Project

    • Drug Addiction Services of Hawaii (Pahoa, Hawaii) – Evaluation of a project that provides comprehensive substance abuse treatment and HIV/AIDS prevention services to the women of Hawai’i. The project utilizes approaches that integrate science-based treatment modalities with traditional Hawaiian healing practices. SAMHSA/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) funded.

    • State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services (Honolulu, HI) – Conduct comprehensive evaluation services for a statewide (Oahu, Maui, East Hawaii, West Hawaii) project that provides community based residential rehabilitative programming for non-violent youth as alternatives to Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility or sending them to out-of-state correctional facilities.     • Partners in Development Foundation (Honolulu, HI) - Provide comprehensive program evaluation of culturally-relevant education curriculum for the mobile preschool and outreach services for the Native Hawaiian homeless families to equip them success by breaking the "culture of poverty" and empowering the family along the Leeward Coast of Oahu, Hawaii. Contract also includes developing a web-based management information systems database. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

    • Ke Ola Mamo – A Native Hawaiian Healthcare System (Honolulu, HI) – Program evaluation services for a health and wellness program for Native Hawaiian communities throughout the island of Oahu in the State of Hawaii.     • Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Outcomes Project

    • Gregory House (Honolulu, HI) – Comprehensive evaluation of supportive housing services for HIV infected homeless clients. Outcomes assessed include changes in homelessness and housing status, household income, treatment utilization (for medical, mental health, substance use in outpatient, inpatient and emergency room setting), substance use rates, employment status, criminal justice involvement, HIV status (T-cell & Viral Load count), perception of quality of life, self-esteem, problem solving skills, psychological distress, HIV risk behaviors, and client satisfaction with program services.     • Guam, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse (Tamuning, Guam) - Perform a needs assessment documenting and analyzing Guam’s incidence and prevalence of drug and alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

    • Family Advocacy Program

    • U.S. Department of Defense, Army Garrison Hawaii – Comprehensive community education and training preventive services related to the primary risk factors for child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and other maltreatment and neglect, are provided in support of the Army Family Advocacy Program. Part of the contract includes conducting community needs assessment of soldiers, family members, commanders and other stakeholders in the community.

    • Catholic Diocese of Honolulu – Providing consulting and technical assistance to develop methods for effective and on-going performance measurement and evaluation of programs and services across 66 parishes throughout the State of Hawaii. Funded by Compassion Capital Fund grant from US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF).

    • Leadership Survey

    • State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services (Honolulu, HI) – Purpose of the survey is to gather and report input on the qualities, skills, abilities and other pertinent characteristics that employees and other stakeholders would like to see embodied in the next top leadership positions at the Benefits, Employment and Support Services liision (BESSD) and MedQuest liision (MQD). These surveys were conducted via online website, paper-and-pencil questionnaire, and telephone interviews throughout the State of Hawaii. Data collected were analyzed and reported to DHS to be used as a tool toward recruiting and filling their next leadership positions.
